Re: Express window feature
German and European spec Audis had the express up and down feature at the
same time that Audi introduced the express down (only) feature in the US. I
believe it is controlled (like everything else on an Audi) by a relay. If
so, it may be possible to seek out the European part number for the relay
and effect a plug-in installation.
I think Audi (sensibly) didn't fit the auto-close feature to the US cars
because of liability worries. There was no safety over-ride for that system,
so pinched fingers could result.
Model year 1996 Audi A4 and A6 models, and late '95 S6s, have express down
for all windows and express up for the front windows. Included is a feature
they call "Pinch Protection" which senses an obstruction in the auto-closing
window. It will stop and reverse the window to let Junior's fingers loose.
Earlier Audis with the rotary knob to control the sunroof also have a
similar feature to stop and reverse the sunroof if it senses a trapped object
as it auto-closes.
