No, it doesn't rule it out, it's the heater core, very
common, and it usually leaks VERY little, just enough to
make the inside of the car in winter look like the
      Amazon at dawn.

You'll have to check the flaps, and the valve that's
behind the glovebox to see if all is fine. Could also
be a loose vacuum hose. (loose tube on mine had exact
      same symptoms)

Sounds like the cause of your second problem. The units
are somewhat expensive, but you should try a boneyard
      first.

RLW> 4. Has anyone had luck fixing their sagging headliner?

Hmmm, never had this problem on my '84 5KS, nor
have I seen it on other Audis, I don't remember
even seeing sagging headliners in the 5K's sitting
in boneyards. 3M makes an excellent adhesive,
you'll probably have to peel the headliner back
somewhere along the door openings to get the
         spray glue in there.

RLW> This is by no means an exaustive list but I think I can get the

Aside from the Pentosin leaks and the swelling top
radiator hose, there shouldn't be much more to
tackle on the '84 5KS. You'd also be well
served to change the radiator if it's original,
goosenecks have a tendency to break right off
      at inopertune times.
I also know a cheap fix for the idle control
relay if it has/develops problems there. (Well,
not exactly a fix, more of a bypass.)

      Good Luck,
