I was in that area a few weeks ago traveling back to Albuquerque from San
Diego after the holidays (About 825 miles each way and the Audi showed just
how great it was for the long distance, high speed transport of two adults,
one large dog and all their luggage). No traffic and a fairly smooth,
straight two lane so I was also thinking about a top speed run. At about
95mph and accelerating, I saw the same black car on the horizon and I quickly
slowed to sub-orbital velocity. Actually it couldn't be the same car because
he WAS a member of the NM Highway Patrol. To make it short, I was polite, he
was polite and the dog was polite by not taking his arm off when he reached
for my license. I got a warning for 74mph in a 55. Maybe it does help to be
driving "just" a station wagon.
