i think that nut that holds the tie rod to the rack should have a round         
metal plate under it.  that plate should be bent up against two facets          
of your loose (now torqued) nut to prevent exactly this from happening.         
last guy to replace your tie rods prolly took a (dangerous) shortcut.           
i'll recheck and repost if i'm wrong, but i remember this from every            
vw/a i've bothered to look at (just not 100% about big audis.)                  
minor PITA for rack or rod r & r but better than the alternatives  :(
