Audi 5000 Door handle trouble

I have been driving my '87 5000 for 50,000 miles now without any problems, 
however one small problem has developed recently.  On both of the rear 
doors, the outside handle does not "spring" back into place after it has 
been squeezed, making it difficult to open the doors.  I have to insert a 
screwdriver or key between the moving latch part and the fixed part of the 
handle inorder to get the door to latch closed again.

Has anyone else experienced this and what is the best way to fix it?
