9007/9004 lights....
I don't remember who started this discussion, and I went looking in the
archives, and gave up searching.... so here goes:
I remember that we were discussing that the 9007 had a better light pattern
or dispersion, but had to be doctored to fit in the 9004 hole. There was a
post on how to modify the casing etc.... Well, shame on me, I didn't save a
copy!!
My question though is this:
How does it improve the lighting? The wattage is not greater.... I think it
was because the filaments were vertical and not horizontal inside the bulb,
right? If I do this, what is the end result... better beam pattern
altogether, or just a narrower beam further down the road? Does an
adjustment have to be made so as not to blind oncoming drivers?
Also, I just noticed at my local auto parts store that the base on both the
9004 and the 9007 that they were selling were identical. The only difference
was the position of the filaments inside the bulb (other than the price of
the 9007 being $5.00 more!). It looks as if it is a simple swap. No cutting,
filing... nothing. (I believe these were Phillips/GE branded bulbs).
So, before I spend the $30.00 to "try" them, any thoughts? Would it be worth
the attempt?
TIA,
Jim
