RE: EC article & ad for Eurospec stroker kit

Glen

On my 89 10v going into an 82tqc I've done about the same as you.
Match ported the head and both manifolds, extrude honed both manifolds, heat coated the xhaust manifold, 3 angle valve job, ceramic coated the valves & head , installed the schrick cam w/ their springs.

Also coated the pistons and polished the rods and will use Raceware head studs and their rod bolts when the motor is ready for reassembly. I left the stock valves because at the time I couldn't get solid info on enlarging the same. Engine only had approx. 26k miles on it.

I also looked into the Eurorace stroker kit but came to the same conclusions as you. That's why I'm interested in the VW crank setup. Any thoughts on how I can "stroke" the motor with redoing the head.
Would I have to replace the rods and pistons or can I get away with just reworking the stock pistons.

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Steve

My thoughts exactly. I went for the head work, big valves and flowed the
2-piece exh and the intake bigtime. Can do a lot for $2500 cost of the
stroker kit. I investigated this in detail. At the time I talked to Eurorace
the stroker cranks were re-welded 5-cyl crank -- NOT stock Eurovan cranks
and the price for the kit was $2500..... The welded crank scared me as
well as possible reliability issues due to the longer stroke, etc, etc. I
went with the stock stroke and MAX cyl bore for larger displacement with
custom Arias pistons. The Arias are 100 grams lighter Vs stock even with the
larger diam! :)

'there is no replacement for displacement'
