86 5000CD Turbo - customizing

I just discovered this group, and am an absolute Audi fan.  I have the 
above car, which I love, with 186,000 km.  I've had some front end 
/suspension work done, that's about it.  The car runs better after 10 
years that most people's new cars I've driven.  My question is: I've 
seen some customizations (didn't know anyone DID this to 5000s) and I'd 
like to know your opinion: if you were to put money into this type of 
car, would you do it with an apparently good 5000 CDT, or try to find a 
good Audi 200 first, then customize?  I can't believe I haven't had any 
problems with mine, but apart from general wear and tear -- I haven't.
