Turn signals...only when fan on?

Had a strange thing happen.

Directional signals stopped working. While fiddling with bulb contacts the
rad. fan came on (engine warm and idling), the blinkers worked while the fan
ran, stopped with the fan turning off. This was repeated a few minutes later.
Anyone have a clue on this one?
