Suspension Day
Just got back from St. Louis with my new suspension. WOOOOW!!!!
As I told the list earlier, I've searched high and low and in
between for the *right* suspension upgrade for my 89 200tqw. Found it
with Eric Fletcher [you know where to reach him: STEADIRIC@aol.com].
Let me say this first. Eric has stuck his neck out a little on
this list regarding the QClub. For those who have flamed him, or
questioned his intentions, let me tell you this: After spending 8 hours
with him today, he is AUDI PERFORMANCE through and through. It is clear
to me that his opinions are not voiced to grind an axe, rather, it is to
try and solve the shell game that is so well played on the street corners
of New York City and at QClub. Talk to him personally, judge for yourself.
Now to the good stuff. Eric has designed a suspension upgrade
for our 5ktq / 200tq that is AMAZING. To put it bluntly, if you are
serious about your suspension, and want an UPGRADE not merely a
modification, check this out.
The front suspension was an absolute bitch to get off. Finally
had to use a flaming wrench to get the tie-rods off [cut that is, heat
didn't faze 'em]. The $200 I spent to have the shop and ace mechanic for
4 hours was the best money I've ever spent. The suspension [mixture of
Eibach, Tokico and Koni] lowers the car about 7/8 inch. While I haven't
had it long enough for any objective tests, the seat of pants tells me
the transient response is tremendous while hard cornering is spot on.
In town, you feel very little difference over the hard broken
pavement. At speed, the car feels really hunkered down and strong. Toss
it and it goes. I am like a kid w/ a new toy. On the north side of 100,
the car feels firm and completely under control. Frankly, the suspension
makes you want to drive way to fast. BTW, Eric spent mucho time w/ the
alignment guy and, I must say, I am impressed. Took an off ramp [30mph
marked] at 70 and a little--all I could do was grin.
BTW, if you are in the St. Louis area book a flight w/ Eric.
Rode out some beeeuuutiful drifts on some area cloverleafs. This guy
knows how to drive.
Lest you think this is a hail Eric post, I will tell you this:
don't race him on the Indy Car? video game--cheats his ass off.
Great product. Now, on to the motor and brakes. All disclaimers
apply. Got nothing out of this other than a kick ass suspension UPGRADE!!!
