No Brakes....Boink-k-k-k....Brakes

I'd appreciate a little help with a scarry "no brakes" situation on my 87
5kcsTQ.

Only happens about 1 out of 10 times. Shortly after starting up, about the
2nd or 3rd time I step on the brake pedal, the pedal feels high, stiff, and
there's almost no brakes. As I begin to panic and apply more pressure, I'll
hear a "boinking" spring being released, kind of sound, and brakes return to
normal. The bomb is only a year old. After shutting down I can pump the pedal
40 times before it gets stiff and high. Front pads & rotors replaced 2k miles
ago, rear pads and one caliper replaced prior to problem.
