Right.  Every Bose speaker in my car is a single cone unit - no 
coaxials.  I think this is where they save a buck and compensate by 
the electronics in their amps.  I agree about the quality of sound; I also 
think these speakers are capable of reproducing high-end sound if 
you can get the signal to them.  I also agree that a more ideal 
system would use separate tweeters, and that may end up being what I 
try.  It's just that adding two more speakers in my configuration 
will require additional electronics worth about $300 to do what I 
really want to do.  That may be chicken feed for others, but I don't 
spend $300 on car electronics very darn often.  Last time I did, I 
bought a whole JVC Am/Fm/Cassette deck head with 6-disc CD changer 
(factory reconditioned) for about $380! 

Grumble, grumble, gripe........
