There's nothing different about the stock wiring for the headlights, but the
AutoCheck system monitors the low beam circuit to be able tell if a bulb is
out. The wiring harnesses that are available for the high output bulbs have
their own relays, connectors, and heavier gauge wire. The harness taps into
the stock wiring to tell when the headlight switch is turned on, but the
stock connector is not used. If you get the harness that handles both high
and low beams, you get to look at the "bulb out" warning symbol whenever the
headlights are on. That's why I opted for the 100/55 instead of the 100/80.
The 55-watt low beam draws more juice than stock but so far it seems to be
within the design limits of the switch.

My connector meltdown occurred last summer and since taking care of that and
adding the special harness, I haven't had a problem. It's an easy
installation. I connected the power leads to the jump start block in the
passenger side front corner of the engine compartment. You will have an
extra bundle of wires with a bright yellow covering running around under the
hood. This harness was specially made for the Audi app. I remember the
folks at Competition Unlimited said something about an Audi Rep seeing the
harness and commenting positively on it.

The Euro lights are available from some suppliers here, but I'm not sure they
are "legal". But neither are the high output bulbs... "Off Road use only"
yadda yadda blah blah... I don't know a lot about this but I think there is
some modification required to fit them. And you have to convert your
connectors (and relay???) to the Euro ones too because the Euro lights use
the H4 bulb. It's pretty pricey, I think.

Carlinville, IL? Sounded close until I looked it up. About 400 miles. Any
flooding down there?

Wait! Is it Saturday night? Oh yeah, this is Lansing (a sleepy burg,
population 1200). The nearest typical signs of civilization (Wal-Mart,
McDonalds, Target, Audi dealer) are 30-45 miles away. Oop. Gotta go. Time
to walk the dog down to the river and wave at the midnight barge. Yeehaw.
