Couple ?'s - '90 80

I know this is a rather unpopular car here on the List, but I was wondering if
anyone could enlighten me on a few problems I'm having on my sisters 1990 Audi
80. When the car is first started, it fumbles for an idle speed, going from
500 to around 2000RPM's. After a few seconds it evens out & is just fine. I
looked for an idle stabilizer to clean out, but I didn't find one (not one that
looks like the ISV in my 5000's anyhow.) Mr. Bentley was less than helpful,
spelling things out nicely for the 5cyl but not the 4 banger. Do the 2.0's
have ISV's? Where they be?

I gave the car a thorough tune-up (had a ball of fun ripping that front
headlight out too) hoping that would help the starting, but never really
figured out where the fuel filter goes. It sure isn't in the engine
compartment. Is it easy to find under the car (note I didn't look last night,
got too late.) Or is it hidden like the air box?

I remember a while back there was a discussion on how to remove the dash pod
without removing the steering wheel (she's got an airbag) but I dond't remember
what it was. My InterNet browser is in a state of Flux, no Archives for me...
She's got a light out on the left side of the pod, how did you guys get that
dash pod out?

TIA for any help
