4kcsq, suspension upgrade, cartrige removeal tool?!!!!

Did some preflight checks last night before digging into a spring
and cartrige change project this weekend.  Snag #1: there is 
a special tool shown in the manual for removing the cap over the
strut cartrige.  The cap has an inside hex instead of an outside
hex or flats like a VW.  Do I need this tool (2069)?  Is there another 
way to do this without trashing the cap?  If I need the tool does 
anyone know of a shop in the San Jose Califorina area that will 
rent one out.  I suspect that it would cost about $100 to buy, like 
alot of the other special tools.   Help!
