My brother just bought an '87 5kcstq

Hi everyone,
Well what better to use as my seemingly semi-annual post to the list!
My brother just bought a new (to him) '87 5kcstq.
So any advice that I can pass along to him, safety issues, recalls, IA 
phone # (for me!!!, when I get to borrow it), etc.
I did find a steering rack problem, rack/pump/possibly Bomb.
Is GPR the cheapest place to get these parts?
Any and all help is much appreciated, as usual.
BTW, I missed a few issues a while back, are we pitching in for Dan's 
engine?
