RE: Hoodsaver tape...found
I happened across the same product at Stonguard the other day (they
bought it because it's the competitor). Stonguard sells a couple of 3M
products: one for lights and one for painted areas (hoods etc.). I now
have the former on my Euro headlights to the tune of about $40 total.
It's maybe 1/8in thick and is custom cut for the application. They put
it on right there (Stonguard happens to be about a mile from where I
work) - I'd recommend having a dealer for the stuff do it as the
adhesive is pretty serious and it can apparently be pretty hard to get
on right. They themselves screwed it up the first time but simply went
upstairs and cut another set. The other product is a very thin "film"
that goes on wherever you want your paint protected. They even use it in
the "cups" by the door handles. It looks very nice although you can see
the line where it ends. It's even harder to put on as the adhesive
requires cleaning the paint with an alcohol based solution first and
extreme care as fingerprints will show up as hazy spots... They also
custom cut these "bras".
If you want more than a 2in strip covered, this seems to be the way to
go.
If anybody is interested I can get their phone number. Let me know.
Usual disclaimers apply: no association bla bla...
