Re: Urgent: A6 or A4?

Hi Osman,

I've recently gone through the A4/A6 decision. I originally was leaning
towards the A4, then got concerned about the size (we have a one year old).
We ended up going with the A4Q (automatic, my wife doesn't do clutches). I
must say that I doubt many people actually evaluate both since they have
different price points and really are VERY different.

Some observations on both:
- The back seat in the A4 is tight for more than two people (or one and a
car seat).
- The A4 uses newer engineering as the A6 is really the old 100 carried
over/freshened
  up.
  - A6 uses a four speed auto, while the A4 has a five speed
  - The alarm systems are different (if it matters/works;-))
  - ABS on the A4 is Bosch V (fifth generation); not sure on the A6
- The two cars drive completely different from one another (this is what
will probably
sway the decision one way or the other more than anything.
  - The A4Q (even with the auto) is quicker and more precise. This is a
result of the
shorter wheelbase and smaller/lighter body. This is what put us back
in the A4Q.
  - The A6Q is more luxurious, smooth and almost removed. You really feel
the increase in size when you are in it. Both my wife and I felt
like we were driving our parents' cars when we were in the A6Q.
- The A4Q also has more assist on the brakes (whether this is good or bad
is personal preference). It tends to make them feel more responsive.

BTW, I don't think you can make a "bad" decision either way; both are great
cars. We bought the A4Q without a single regret so far. We do however,
wish Audi offered "A5" that straddles the two in terms of size...
