4000 timing

Hi, i understand your problum. i rebuilt both of the engines on my 4000s
audis last winter.<and they run great> the dot will be visible when looking
from the rear of the engine towards the  grille. if you dont see it at
first, then you should turn the crankshaft through one more complete
revolution until the marks line up again. then check for the dot. this can
happen because the camshaft turns at a different rate than the crankshaft.
when the other marks are in line then the dot should be in a position about
even with the cam cover gasket. good luck. and if i can help post something new.
