I'm not so sure ... I noticed that when I was replacing the timing belt on
my 200q that I could get the flywheel and crank pulley marks to line up at
TDC but not the cam sprocket as well. It ended up too high or too low ...
since I was installing an adjustable sprocket and really wanted to be sure
it was set at TDC to start with, I dug out my dial indicators and lined up
both the camshaft lobes and No. 1 piston. Guess what? The dimple was off
by a bit more than one-half of a tooth (aka +/- 4 degrees)! Could this be
considered a normal production line tolerance or was it just a fluke on my
car? Either way, it's given me pause to wonder about how tightly Audi has
spec'd some of the OTHER tolerances...
