Re: Valve guides



I don't agree here.  While the original 1.6L 4 cylinder did have short valve
guides and consequent wear problems, exacerbated when some folks used too
good a valve stem seal (prevents oil from lubricating valve stem/valve
guide).  this was much improved with the bigger 1.8L 4 cylinder (and thus
2.2L 5 cylinder) engines.  The '85 4k 4 cylinder is the 1.8L and, properly
treated, should last much more than 80k miles.  We've had 2 Rabbits and 5
Audis in the family in the last 18 years, and except for oneof the Rabbits,
no valve guide problems.
