boo-boo. At about 110,000 miles, the water pump began complaining and I
replaced it. At about 118,000 miles, the fuel pump quit, and I had to be
towed for the first time. At 140,000 miles, I began hearing a soft chirp
coming from the front end. Thought it might be a loose brake pad. It was
the front driveshaft telling me it was time to go. Some 1,100 greenbacks
later, I was on the road again with a new shaft and mounting spindles. The
fuel and water pump problems can be forgiven considering the high mileage.
I'm not so sure about the driveshaft, but on balance the car has been
marvelous, especially on back roads and passes in the Colorado and New Mexico
mountains, and through some of the nastiest winter weather in rural Chester
County, Pa., in many years. The car literally goes through or on everything
except deep snow. It is a car, not a plow. I put 268,000 big ones on a 1982
Volvo turbo wagon. I expect to get that many miles out of my 100CSQ. And
then buy another. Cheers . . .
