<< How come when I was at the mercedes/Audi Dealer here in IL, they had an A8
4.2?? It had the tiptronic and the speedometer was in Km. I figured it was
from Canada, or maybe a demo?? I go there often and I never saw it after
 that day.... >>

4) Resulting in the following summation from ScharfR, even as we speek:
There have been a number of A8s running aound the U.S. and Canada lately,
presumedly for demonstration or homologation purposes. A number of listers
have reported them in diverse parts of the country. The common denominator
has been the use of Michigan manufacturer's plates. This suggests Audi of
America ownership.

Putting zwei und zwei together would persuade me that Audi brought over
standard issue German cars with Tiptronic and kilometer instrumentation.
Fact is that there are not currently any A8s for sale in either the U.S. or
Canada. Numerous press reports indicate that the car goes on sale in both
markets this Fall.

If (big if) anybody has seen a "civilian plate" A8 in IL or elsewhere, and it
had kilometer instrumentation, it could only be here on Temporary Import Bond
or diplomatic status. The car simply isn't released by the maunfacturer for
sale, so there is no homologation basis for a genuine civilian car.
