When I worked at the dealership, as an AUDI tech, we recommended the 
higher octane fuel for several tanks.  Unfortunatley, the problem usually 
turned out to be the actual knock sensor.  Heat takes its toll on those 
poor sensors.  Look in a bone yard first, then as a last resort fork over 
the 100.00 for the new one.
