I too have a PAP rebuilt hyd pump in the 5k.  I've heard from several sources
that ZF rebuilds do have a non-zero infant mortality rate.  The rebuilds from
PAP are rebuilt and then tested by running them for some number of hours before
they ship.  In my experience (one pump) the PAP rebuilds work just fine.  I 
don't remember how much I paid, but I seem to recall it was less than $200 
in a recent sale flyer ...
