Audi routinely uses the NORMALLY CLOSED SWITCHES for monitoring purposes, 
just to make the circuit fool-proof (i.e. if the switch terminals get 
disconnected from the harness accidently,the computer would treat it as a 
mulfunction). You will also find this setup in your front brake wear 
sensors.
