Misc., including Audi content

Just got back from England (one week) and was amazed that almost every other
car on the M-6 (?) between London and Manchester seemed to be an Audi
80/90/A4. (Couldn't be because I was looking for them?)

Found 95 E-mails waiting for me, 20 more came in while reading the first 95,
thought I was put-upon until I read Steadric's comment about 1135! Yikes!

"Borrowed" October '96 copy of "Car" magazine from airline - Audi future as
follows: In addition to the V-12, there is a W-12 (three rows of 4 cyls),
results in a very short but rather wide engine. 4.8 liters, 400 HP, 380
ft/lbs torque, found in forthcoming A-9 platform, no date. Also mentions
Audi will have "first ever in world" diesel V-8 of 225 HP for A-8 next year.
(Someone needs to tell these guys about the many hundreds of thousands of GM
V-8 based diesels running around (noisily) for years and years - hello? hello?)

Very gratifying to see list response to Texaco rip-off. I'm sure I've cost
them lots more than the amound they cheated my fiancee out of!

Saw the comment about MBW proudly proclaiming all German content and all
German engineering - wellllll - in 1968/69 I ran the warranty department for
MBW's U.S. importer before they took it over themselves (Hoffman motors,
NJ). Proudly proclaiming "Gleazon Machinenwerke" as source of diff gears -
Gleason Machineworks is in Rochester NY - "Kuhl-Meister" air conditioners -
from the part of the Black Forest known as Houston TX ("Y'all, mein herr!),
and the neat little smog pump which arrived in the "Genuine BMW Ersatsteile"
blue box - yeah, the cardboard box was genuine BMW, but the $225 smog pump
was from GM, and you could buy it at the local NAPA store for $35 (we did).
Lots of grins here!

More: If you are SERIOUS about JATO for your car <G>, I have the recipe for
it. Makes 1,000 lbs of thrust for about 14 seconds, three common chemicals,
device is about 30 inches long by 10-12 inches in diameter - looks like an
Oxygen bottle from a welder - oh boy, could someone get seriously and
spectacularly killed trying this at home! (Everyone knows the whole purpose
of the internet is to get bomb formulas and porno into the hands of innocent
children!)

Finally, this list is MUCH better than some of the other similar car lists.
As was mentioned, MUCH higer signal to noise ratio, I have found it
EXTREMELY useful in keeping ahead of my 86 5KCS (did I get the jargon right?)

Another Audinaut,
