A few years back, I had one of the first Ford Granadas to be fitted with the
(then) new 2.0EFi engine. I took it in for its first 5,000 mile service (to
Currie Motors in Hounslow - let the guilty be named). I went back to collect
it in the evening, to find a rental car waiting for me. Currie's had snapped
off a plug when trying to remove it, and the (alloy) head had to come off for
drilling out and helicoiling. The saga that followed was barely credible, and
lasted two weeks. I finally got a phone call from them early one morning,
promising the car at 5:00pm. I went in, to see two medium-sized Ford vans
packing up in their yard. One had a 2.0EFi engine in the back, in some
disarray. The other contained four young and alert-looking mechanics in "Ford
of Europe" overalls.
As I drove away, the receptionist at Currie Motors advised me that "a lot of
work has been done. It might be best to treat it like a new car and run it in
again."
