A4 1997 models radio antenna?

hi.

are the 1997 A4's out yet? just curious. in the past 2 days i've seen 2 
new A4's (still had temp tags) on the road. they both had a little black 
antenna in the center and towards the top of the rear window. is this a 
aerial antenna, to improve radio reception? more likely, i guess it's 
just a cellular phone antenna. i did not get to see if the rear window had 
the lines for the built in radio antenna. i'm still wondering how i can 
improve the reception. actually, i wouldn't mind improving the whole 
stereo. i have the bose system, but am somewhat disappointed with it. has 
anyone done any upgrades/replaced the bose system? was it tough to do?
