Nearly every manufacturer has had problems with UI, during the mid-80 I specifically
remember Cadillac and Volvo.
The rub for Audi was that they had twice the incidence rate of any other manufacturer:
still a small statistical percentage, but still twice as much.
I contribute this to: 1) the placement of 5000's brake and accelerator, and 2) rough
idle. A likely scenario would be: upon starting idle would surge enough to cause the
car to move forward; since the foot was not on the brake when the automatic was put in
gear the car starts rolling forward. The startled driver slams on the brake (only it is
NOT the brake, its the accelerator) and car rockets into oblivion.
