Hawk Blues
Hawkers,
I was talking to Larry at Carbo-Tech brake in FL. He is doing some custom
brakes for the Merkur crowd. We talked Hawk also.
I bring this up as I saw someone wants to do Hawk Blues on their car. He sells
black and blue and said that no way do you want to run the blues on the street.
He said expect squeal and very high wear rate of the rotors. Unless the blues
are at real track temps, say a Q club event or other time trail race type use,
the blues don't work well and kill rotors. But when they are hot, like really
hot they are good to rotors and work really well.
I don't remember the temp range of the blue but it was higher than black with
the blacks at @300-1100 degrees I believe I remember.
So blue guy, why not the blacks? Better in all respects for street use.
I'll post CarboTechs #. Larry is really straight forward about what he sells.
He isn't out to sell what is on his shelf if it won't work for your purpose.
And he tells you straight out ALL the downsides of certain brakes. Even the
ones he sells. Nice of him I think. He will also tell you don't call him to
bitch about commuting 2 miles a day on Hawk Blues and that they squeal and dust
and kill rotors. He already told you first!
