lighting options for 92+100

I think my head lights are getting dimmer on my 93 100S. I was wondering
if there were any other alternatives that I could replace it with other
than stock OEM bulbs. Brighter would be better. . .but not obtrusive to
other traffic.

A friend of mine mentioned H4 bulbs. What are they? Is it available for
Audi's?

Any help would be appreciated.
