fred's axlenet?
I decided that since I'm this far in, I would pull the
left axle as well, since I don't like how the mechanic
reassembled the joint. The other side is OK, except that
I don't trust the circlip to stay on the axle.
I'm taking both to an Audi guy today to look at, but
if he doesn't like them (I noticed that one of the outer
joints, I think the right side, is much stiffer than
the other, which may explain why I was losing power on
tight turns), I will replace them.
Has anyone dealt with Fred's Axlenet on the net?
The prices are quite good, and though I'd prefer not
to drop a couple of hundred more on the car (hell,
what's another few hundred?!?) I want to get it fixed
right once and for all.
Oh, I found that the shifter plate I broke inside the car
is usually only sold as an assembly. Shokan wanted $85,
I got it for $45 from VW Parts Inc (800-VW-PARTS) who
is the same guy who sold me the damn car in the first place,
but as I've said, never had a problem getting parts from
him. I need to adjust the linkage though as 1,2,3 will
not engage. Do you really need the special Audi tool to
adjust this?
Ben Howell is getting me a used distributor hopefully
by tomorrow, so if I get the axles ready and installed,
bolt up the downpipe, and replace the distributor,
I should be ready for the weekend. The big
motivation is I'm going to a wedding with classmates
I haven't seen in 5 years, and I don't want to drive
my beatup Jetta :)
