clutch slave clip?

Can someone explain the position of the slave clip
(looks like a bent piece of wire) and where it goes?
I never saw it come out (mechanic did it) so I want to
make sure it goes back right.  I was thinking of replacing
the pin with a bolt and nut - is this OK, or should I
just get the pin from the dealer (I lost the other one!)
