engine mounts

Hi,

I have an 86 5kCDTQW (not diesel please). It has a 2.2 turbo MC engine.
I was checking the condition of my engine mounts, and I noticed that the
front engine mount is not being supported.  The rubber mount is there but
nothing supports it.  That's the one protruding into and behind the front
grill underneath the intercooler.  
Am I missing a bracket there or is that the way it is?  
I have had the car for four years and nothing has changed there.  It
certainly looks like it never had any support there.  Does anybody with a
similar model have the same set up?
