In the October issue of VW Audi Car there is an article on the trials and 
tribulations of owning an ur-quattro.
The author describes a similar cutout at 4500 rpm.  I believe they tracked 
down the problem to two solder connections on the intake temp sensor.  You 
may want to pick up a copy and read the article.
There is also a road test of the new Passat in this issue as well as in this 
months Car magazine for those of you that are interested.
