My turbo 4000 quattro
After hitting a illegaly parked van my poor 4000 q had to go under a
knife. Its been 7 months and it still is in a coma. I may sound
obsessed but than again who on this list is not. After welding in
new frond end clip from a donor 4000s the car is ready for the 1982
5k turbo motor. Hey I got it cheap (complete running car that I
drove home for $150). I also got a 5kt intercooler and forward facing
intake manifold. Intercooler fit perfect in behind the grill wich
was the newer sloping one. I am still debating on weather to stick with
the f.i. that came with the 5000 or to try to modyfie the quattro's
KE Jetronic. If both ideas are not possible I will have to find a
complete wiring harness with sensors from a newer 5000 t although
this step could proove pricey. Does any one know of a way to modyfie
KE Jetronic to work with a turbo.Next step is to install a transmission from
a 90 quattro. I really like the idea of the torsen center diff.
The onlu problem is that the shift mechanizm is totally different.
Itlooks under the shifter boot more like a regular 4000s or a coupe with the
pivot point over the shift rod where as the 4000 quattro's shifter has the
pivot point under the shift rod. I also have plans to install a
limited slip in the rear differential . Anyone has any idea on how to
proceed? To cope with the added power I am planning to upgrade front
brakes with 11" rotors and willwood calipers as for the rear brakes a set of vented
rotors would be nice. I was wondering if 200 20v q rear
calipers would fit, but what is the mounting bolt spacing on the
caliper carrier? It would be nice to retail the hand brake cable if
not I will just fit another set of wilwoods on the back as well.
Any help is greatly appriciated.
