VW / Audi transmission question...
Hello Dan,
Thank you for offering an Audi web page. It makes contacting you,
and learning about Audi services very easy for the on-line
professional.
I am sending you mail personally, because I know from working
with the Volvo list (swedishbricks) that an non subscriber can cause
problems to the function of the list. I have an interesting problem.
I am a member of a team which is preparing a high efficiency hybrid
electric automobile for national competitions. This "FutureCar" is
operated with both a VW TDI engine and an electric motor. We have
coupled the electric motor to the rear-axle power take-off from
a VW Quantum 4WD transmission. This transmission is a 5-speed unit
which allows for conventional longitudinal mounting of the engine.
The electric motor is "hung" off the back of the transmission, and
it is supported in the "tunnel" region between the two front seats
of our Dodge Intrepid.
Our questions are:
1) Are different gears available for this Transmission?
2) Is there a different final drive gear available?
(the litureature seems to indicate that all types were 4.11:1)
3) Are there other companies/people who would know more?
Our engine is not geared well for highway operation. The final
drive is 4.11:1 and we would like to move it down to ~3.1:1.
Or we will consider changing the 4th and 5th gears to achieve better
highway gearing.
Any assistance is welcome, and it would be greatly appreciated.
I also know that being moderator of a list can be exhausting.. so
please do not hyperextend yourself for my request.
Sincerely,
Herman L.N. Wiegman
