Re: stall at idle - 90q20v
Solomon:
Your car automaticaly adjusts the idle via the idle stabilizer valve ISV.
You are NOT supposed to adjust the idle unless the ISV fails and the car
will not run. Generally, the car will idle even if the ISV fails (stops
working). However, if the ISV is working improperly it may need to be
cleaned (see archives) or replaced. The ISV is a small cylindrical
mechanism which is plugged into the air intake boot.
The standard idle for that car should be about 920RPM. and should not go
below 800RPM. The way you sould adjust the idle back to nomal is to start
engine, turn off all electical loads, and the climate control system. Then
disconnect the ISV wires. Adjust idle to about 920RPM. Then turn on climate
control to AUTO - High and turn on Lights (create load). Note change in RPM
should drop to about 800.
PS: I can fax you more technical information in this proceedure.
