'82 tqc info

In our meandering search for another Audi, my father will be looking at
an '82 ur-quattro in Atlanta on Wednesday. Supposedly, the owner claims
it was 1 of 5 brought to the U.S. in '82 as a precursor to general
sales. Apparently it was bought in '82 by a doctor, blew the head
gasket, had it fixed, but didn't drive it from '84 - '92. This fellow
in Atlanta bought it (he didn't say for how much, but probably cheap), and
had to completely replace the fuel system to get it running.

So, how many ur-quattros were brought into the U.S. in '82? I thought
there were ~240 sold in '82. Is this 1 of 5 story legitimate?
My father will get the VIN and build date when he checks the car out,
hopefully this will verify or deny his story.

My father thinks the guy may take a reasonable offer, based on what other
quattros are selling for, and the fact that he has a Porsche 911 as his
daily driver. However, he used to work at a Porsche/Audi dealer, and
has the idea that he "knows what these cars are worth", according to my
father.

What we need is some proof to support an offer of, say $8K - $9K. If his
"1 of 5" story is not true, that will help. If it is true, how will that
effect the value of the car? Also, I have seen a lot of prices for quattros
in the $7k - $10k range, so that will help. What other questions can we ask
that will help us determine the value of the car? (It only has 34K
miles on it, good interior, fading original silver exterior, new stainless
steel exhaust, otherwise stock...he wants $14K.)

Thanks,
Eric
