Be real careful here. I recently purchased a car for my son. Picked
it up late on a Fri. By Sat pm it was obvious that it was a junker
that had been in an accident at one time. When the bank opened Mon.
Am I was waiting, and stopped payment on the check. I then called
the dealer and told them that the car was coming back. Dealer said no
way and that if I did not release the check I would be in big do-do.
I called the attorney generals office and found out that the dealer
was correct, stopping payment on the check was a serious offense and
that I had better get a lawyer fast. I let the check clear the bank,
then went hunting. In the end I won and got a full refund from the
dealer.
