RE: Seat heater switches
Joe, thanks for the comments. Yes, the switch is dead, and I murdered it.
I hooked up a 12V battery charger on the bench to what I thought was
pin 3 and pin 5 to check the bulb (after I resoldered in the new one); wasn't
the right pins (can't tell you which I connected; tore power leads off switch
too fast). I noticed this by seeing the charger ampmeter was pegged at
max; by the time I focused back on the switch and jumped on pulling
the leads, heard a "POP" and saw a puff of smoke from the switch.
The switch is dead; long live the switch!
By the way, have started calling "recyclers" (hell with it; they're still
junkyards
except for the prices they now charge) that advertise in "Euro Car", but
nobody
has a "recycled" switch. New switch from one outfit was $62. I'll continue
searching.
By the way LOVED your "apologies'' mail!!

Ray writes about his trials and tribulations with his seat heater switch:
I am a little confused by his "burning out the rheostat" though. The
rheostat
is, as near as I can tell, the black arc on the circuit board. It's hard to
imagine that twelve volts across the wrong terminals would destroy this.
Ray:
Have you checked the thin metal arcs on the wheel? It is possible these
could
be bent and are causing your switch to malfunction.
