Maximum boost 1.3??

I have seen all these postings about people getting 1.8 bar out of their
turbo 10v engines...my '88 5kCST (auto...don't laugh) maxes out at 1.3 bar.
I have already replaced that big rubber hose that runs from the intercooler
to the turbo intake, so this is not the problem.

Any other places to check, or do the auto tranny turbos not give as much
boost as the 5-speeds?

Would there be a noticeable difference from 1.3 to 1.8?
