RE: Engine Hood Release Cable
Same thing happened on my wife's old '87 5KSQ. I took a long (8")
screwdriver, poked thru the grille in the right spot, and was able to
pop the latch. You should be able to see it if you look carefully, a
bright light helps.
I found the cable was fine, it just insisted on popping itself off its
seat. I was able to cable tie it in place. The cable tie act would last
for 7 or 8 openings, then I needed the long screwdriver and another
cable tie.
We traded it in before it got to be such a PITA that I had to fix it, so
I'm not sure what the actual repair would involve. HTH.
