ABS5 (was <A4> I get a 1.8TQ!!!)

> Oh, anybody know what "5-channel ABS" means, where's the 5th wheel?

>>Betcha bippy it's an accelerometer.

>From the 1995 UK A4 brochure:

"The Audi A4 is equipped with four powerful disk brakes, controlled by a
fifth generation anti-lock braking system (ABS5). A new innovation, taken
from the Audi A8, is electronic brake force distribution (EBD)."

"This latest braking technology distributes braking forces perfectly between
front and rear wheels by using signals from the ABS sensors. It can detect
whether the car is braking in a straight line or whether it is cornering and
instantly applies the right proportion of rear brake force. Sophisticated
electronics in the latest ABS can identify subtle changes in the road surface
such as rain, ice or loose stones and take them into account when
distributing braking force. Even tyre wear and altered vehicle loads are
detected by this 'thinking' electronic system."

Best explanation I've seen and yet another reason why I'll be getting a
1.8Tq.
