Re: ABS5 (what in the world is it!?)
Q: Oh, anybody know what "5-channel ABS" means, where's the 5th wheel?

Ye know, few years ago when I posted the question, NO one answered. As I
read through the replies, I have growing suspicion that Audi is referring
to "5th-generation" rather than "5-channel" on its ABS.
The channel thing is real. Many 'Merican value cars and almost all Honda
uses 3-channel setup -- one channel for each front tires, and one for BOTH
rear tires. Many European marques use 4-channel setup, in which all wheel
gets its own 'puter.
I personally heard it as 4-channel setup with additional channel that
monitored the left tires vs. right tires. When I thought it through, I
couldn't stop wondering if that's really an engineering overkill (but
necessary few years ago) or just a mis-information. With today's computing
power, it's certainly possible to do it with just 4 sensors (that's
different than "channels")...
