I had a similar problem in my '85 4kq.  I asked Max MacDonald 
and he told me it was leaking through the windshild.   It sounds funny, since 
the water is near the back seat, but the water just ends up back there.   
I took it to a winshild joint and they 
would not fix it for me because the could not find the leak.  I begged 
but they would not.  I fixed it myself using that windshild stop leak 
stuff from the local auto mart.  It stopped.
