Yes, but you're in an _entirely_ different situation. The original
question involved buying a warranty now which will not take effect
for three years, and at that point starting cover for a three-year-old
car with a known history.
You obtained instant cover for a five-year-old car whose service and
use history you didn't really know. This is a _totally_ different deal
from advance financing a deal at three times the price you paid - for a
three-year-old car whose history will be completely known.
Effectively, the original poster was being asked to pay up to three
times as much as you paid, and to cover a much smaller risk.
