I have to say that I don't think they are all that expensive in the
first place.  Locally I can buy them for ~$2.75 ea. when I buy in lots
of 10.  (Mahle OC47)  That's cheaper than the local discount house's
SALE price on Fram and Purolator.

It just doesn't make sense to me to pay more for what I consider a less
capable filter.  If you want to complain about buying 10 filters at once
(in my case it makes sense, 5 cars use the same filter!) look at it this
way; buy a case of filters, buy a couple cases of oil, and for less than
the cost of 3 Jiffy Lube changes the car is set for the next 2 years!

BTW, the place I buy filters at is Halsey Imports in Portland, OR.  They
will do mail order and are listed in the parts vendors list on Dan's WWW
page.
