Re: Hella drawings are here!
Hi all,
Re: my post about the tech drawings I got from Hella;
Much to my surprise I got swamped by requests for these drawings. Thanks to
all for the interest.
I also got more than I asked for from Hella: apart from the aftermarket DE
H3/H1 assemblies for the Golf III and Passat III I also got the drawings
for the OEM units of the BMW 3 series (E30 model, the one sold until '91).
So, we now seem to have a choice of three units we can fit. Most replies I
got quote an UrQ/4K model as application, but I guess the units themselves
will fit 5Ks/100/200 and later 80/90/Coupe series as well. The quad round
look goes best with the 'square' UrQ/4K look, IMHO.
So, what'll we do next? I can't put these up on a web page myself, and I
found out that their size makes them awkward to scan. Some of the
measurements are given across two projections, which makes cutting the
drawings to pieces or scanning in parts a little harder.
One observation: all replies came from the US. So, is there anyone in the
US I can send the complete drawings to, who can fabricate the plastic
bezels? (Fibreglass, ABS, Lexan, Carbon...?) and is willing to look into
this thing? Obviously, someone with an application for his/her own car
would be best... I'm in over my head on this one, this is way beyond my
competence... I can read tech drawings OK as a result of working for an
industrial design agency for a couple of years, but I've no knowledge of
the materials needed and I've no vehicle I can take measurements off. I've
decided I'm going to stick with stock on my own car, lousy as it may be,
but I'd be glad to help others in designing what, IMO, would be the
ultimate light upgrade without resorting to megawatts and bazillions of
additional lights.
Any volunteers? Drop me a line!
